Clothed in humanity, Jesus came to earth as an infant and grew up experiencing the same temptations, emotions, hunger and thirst that we experience. He went through peer pressure as a teen, suffered physical illness and fatigue. His body was wholly human yet He remained holy.
He never sinned. Jesus remained sinless yet He suffered for our sins. He took on everything that we have ever done wrong and paid the price for us. Because of His love for us, we can be free from that sin debt.
Jesus was tried and though Pilate could find no sin in Him, the Jews insisted that He be crucified. While the Jews were the ones there to insist on crucifixion, we are just as guilty as they in trying Him and crucifying Him.
The soldiers beat Jesus until He was no longer recognizable, they scourged Him, basically disemboweling Him and they hung Him on a cross to die. His died a painful death by suffocating. The they thrust a spear into His heart.
After Jesus died, His followers wrapped Him in burial cloth. They wrapped strips of cloth around Him, binding him in tight burial clothes.
If the story ended at the grave, it would be a tragic and sad story but on Easter Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead.
By rising from the dead, Jesus defeated death and paid the price for our sins. He did this because He loved us. While He hung on the cross, we were on His mind. Unconditional love and a gift of grace. The true story behind Easter.
